Long Street Road Closure

Cllr Geary has the following update regarding the planned closure of Long Street Road:

Following the Parish Council Open meeting last night I, along with Cllr Martin Palmer from the Parish Council, agreed to challenge MK Council Officers as to the necessity, purpose and duration of the proposed road closure in Long Street Road, Hanslope. A meeting was not possible this morning but following numerous telephone conversations and email exchanges the following information is now available.
The road will be closed completely in both directions from 9.30am on Thursday 19th October 2017 and will reopen no later than midnight on Thursday 26th October 2017. The closure will be for both vehicles and pedestrians. No extensions to this time will be granted. There will be an electronically illuminated sign giving the latest up to date information situated on either side of the closure. Signing of the closure will also be in place in Hartwell, Salcey Forest, Tathall End, Hanslope Park and on the triangle at Castlethorpe.
It is not possible to undertake the necessary works without a full closure, highways officers have exhausted every possibility and have not taken this decision lightly. It is due to the both the depth of the excavation and the size of the services being installed that this is necessary.
There will be a revised bus route and details published within the next 48 hours and I will publish that as soon as it becomes available. Inevitably there will be some timetable changes.
If there are any queries that I can help with please email me on Andrew.geary@milton-keynes.gov.uk or alternatively the lead officer, Nick Brown, on nick.brown@milton-Keynes.gov.uk

HANSLOPE REMEMBERS William Charles Evans – 22nd August 2017 5pm to 6pm

William was a Private in the 2nd/1st Bucks Battalion, Oxford & Bucks Light Infantry and killed at Passchendaele, during the phase known as the Battle of Langemarck. Initially buried by the battlefield, in 1919 his body was transferred to Tyne Cot Cemetery and identified only by his disc.

Between 31st July and 28th August that year 68,010 men were injured, of whom 10,266 were killed.

Tragically this was the second death for the Evans family that year. We remembered his cousin Arnold in May – they were neighbours in Newport Road.

The crosses at his headstone were placed, on our behalf,  by recent visitors who found and photographed William’s grave for us. Many of the unknown men are from the same regiment. Tyne Cot has nearly 12,000 graves and records another 35,000 men whose bodies have not be found or identified.

Hanslope & District Cancer Wellbeing & Support Group – 17th July 2017 8pm

Hi everyone, just a reminder that the Hanslope & District Wellbeing & Cancer Support Group meets this evening at 8pm. In the coffee area of St James Church, Hanslope.  New members are very welcome.  We are an informal group who meet every month for an hour or two over a tea or coffee for mutual support, the sharing of information on cancer and cancer resources.  Cancer sufferers and their family members are welcome.  Our leaflet is attached as a link.  John and Andrea the facilitators are always happy to have a private chat with anyone who wonders if this group is for them.  Contacts on poster and leaflet.  The Milton Keynes Cancer Patient Partnership (MKCPP) has a fabulous website http://mkcpp.org/  and have recently an updated version of the Milton Keynes Cancer Resources Directory: http://mkcpp.org/mk-cancer-resources-directory/ .
