WE DID REMEMBER THEM
St James the Great Church was nearly full fro Remembrance Sunday. Scouts, Guides, Beavers and Brownies were out in force in uniform with their colours.
Fr Gary preached an excellent sermon on “Why we wear a Poppy in Remembrance” – a really clear history of the origin of the tradition of wearing the red poppy to remember those who died for their Country. Click here to read the sermon

Hanslope’s Anne Gambles in Strictly MK
Not one to miss a chance to dance, and with a philosophy of “volunteer first, think later” Anne entered the Heart FM Strictly MK Golden Ticket competition hoping to win a celebrity place in Strictly MK.
Having won the Golden Ticket, Anne, one of Hanslope website’s Webmasters and a Trustee for Hanslope 326 Club, is enjoying the challenge of learning new dance steps with her professional partner, Adelmo Mandia and looking forward to dancing her heart out alongside the other local celebrities, not to mention swapping her website editing and committee work for a glamorous dress.
It is the first event of its kind in the Milton Keynes area and will take place on the evening of Saturday 26 October 2013 at the International Indoor Arena at Bury Farm Equestrian Village in Slapton.
15 contestants will be paired with 15 professional dancers, all of whom are ranked highly on the UK dance circuit.
The event will raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Willen Hospice. It follows a similar format to ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, the hugely successful BBC TV show presented by Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly.
Anne is very excited, and a little bit nervous, to have won and is very proud to be able to help raise much needed funds for both charities whilst dancing the night away. She has been dancing modern jive in her spare time for many years. She met her husband at a Ceroc Bedford freestyle dance and several years, a few pairs of shoes and two children later she still dances regularly.
Tickets are selling fast so why not come along and support our very own dancing Hanslopian! Grandstand tickets are now available at a discounted rate of £15 if you quote that you will be supporting Anne!

HANSLOPE NEEDS YOU!
The Parish Council has entered Hanslope into the 2013 Buckinghamshire Best Kept Village Competition. The competition, now in its 56th year is organised by the Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Association of Local Councils.
The object of the competition is to encourage residents to improve their local environment by keeping their villages clean and well cared for and involving the whole of the community in taking a pride in the villages’ upkeep.
The judges’ checklist includes:
- the absence of litter
- the condition of village greens, playing fields,
- the condition of village halls and public buildings
- the condition of churchyards, cemeteries and war memorials
- the condition of hedges and verges
- the condition of bus shelters, notice boards, toilets
- the condition of areas surrounding pubs and shops
- the evidence of community effort
The judging will take place in June. The competition awards are for BEST KEPT villages, NOT beautiful villages. Care, cleanliness, maintenance and community effort are what the judges are looking for.
Your help is need to improve the appearance of the village. If we can all do our little bit in ensuring the area where we live is tidy, then this will go a long way to meeting what the judges are looking for.
In addition, should you feel that to brighten up a specfic area some flowers, hanging baskets, small shrubs are need then please contact the clerk of the council who will collate these requirements and arrange for their purchase ( hanslopeparishcouncil@hotmail.
Thanking you in anticipation for your help.
Ken Reynolds
Chairman Hanslope Parish Council.

HEGS OLD KING COLE A GREAT SUCCESS
Andy Grout writes on Facebook:
Old King Cole brought the house down! Quite literally. On the first night one of the actors fell off the rear of the stage and brought down the back cloth and a piece of scenery. But it must have been a good omen as the performances were great, as were the audiences. A big thank you to everyone who supported us. And of course to the actors, the production crew, backstage crew and front of house.
